random drabble..
Tuesday, March 15th, 2005 04:20 pmIt just seems really weird to me that i got so many votes for Gryffindor.. I mean, yeah, I sounded a bit excited on my application, but it didn't occur to me that excited=Gryffindor to some people.
Then again.. I also tried to be 'fair' to all the houses.. I actually deliberately stifled any impulses to promote any House i thought I should be in, and included all my charictaristic inconsistancies, hoping that it would even out into a 'fair vote'... But I was wrong.
But, you might ask, why can't you be satisfied with being in Gryfindor? ..Most HP fans would be overjoyed to be sorted into that house!
I have nothing against that house, for me, it's a matter of principle, and of where I feel comfortable.

hogwartsishome a little, and When I got to the list of students part, i was thinking "hmm.. I'll bet theres alot more hufflepuffs than any other house, and probably should be less gryffindor, because real bravery is very rare.." Well, to my surprise, gryffindor turns out to have the most students of all the houses! about 60 more than Slytherin, 20 more than Ravenclaw, and 10 more than Hufflepuff! (which I had kinda accurately guessed, because it's the 2nd largest)
And i got to thinking... this should be evened out.. because it does seem a bit unfair that certain houses have less people to go and do activities to earn points, and heres Gryffindor, with a whopping 160+ students, thier likelyhood of bringing in more points is significantly larger because of their size.
Besides.. theres already a huge bias set in the HP books towards Gryffindor! I mean, most of the main characters are from that house! and since it's in Harry's (a gryff's!) POV, the 'puffs seem crabby and suspicious, the 'claws don't seem very smart at all ('cept for Luna), the slytherins are pure evil (which i strongly disagree with, they're just misunderstood! and hardened by the ever-growing scorn from the other houses) it seems that the only house we really know anything about is Gryffindor.. since we know all the personalities of the main characters, theres so many qualities that we can see in a person that are also possesed by a gryffidor character.. and so automatically you make that false assumption that just because they have these certain qualities, they should be in gryffindor! ..and on it goes in a vicious circle.. grr!
